Uploading Your First Documents

Walk through uploading your first documents, watching the processing pipeline in action, and seeing your knowledge graph come to life.

This guide is for anyone with upload permissions who wants to add their first documents to Simply Asking. If you have not yet set up your organization, complete the Set Up Your Organization guide first.

Upload your first documents and see the system extract entities, build graph connections, and make everything searchable.

1

Navigate to Add

Click Add in the center of the header navigation. This opens the Add page where all upload methods are available.

2

Choose Your Upload Method

Choose the upload method that fits your content. Simply Asking supports four ways to add documents:

File UploadDrag and drop or browse for files on your computer.
URL ImportPaste any web URL and the system extracts the content automatically.
Paste TextCopy and paste content directly from any source.
Write DirectlyCompose a new document using the built-in editor.
3

Upload a File

For file upload, drag and drop your file into the upload area, or click to browse your file system.

Supported formats: PDF, DOCX, TXT, CSV, Images (PNG, JPG), Audio (MP3, WAV), Video (MP4). Audio and video files are automatically transcribed. Images are analyzed using OCR.

4

Import from URL

For URL import, paste any web URL into the input field and click Submit. The system fetches the page content, strips navigation and ads, and extracts the main text.

5

Watch the Processing Status

Navigate to the Uploads page to watch your document move through the processing pipeline.

ExtractionContent is pulled from the file or URL
Entity RecognitionPeople, organizations, concepts, and locations are identified
Graph IntegrationEntities and relationships are added to your knowledge graph
EmbeddingContent is vectorized for semantic search
Processing time: Most documents complete in under 60 seconds. Large files, audio, and video may take several minutes.
6

Check the Library

Once processing completes, go to the Library to see your document. Click on it to view the full details, including extracted entities, assigned tags, and a summary of the content.

7

Explore the Knowledge Graph

Open the Knowledge Graph to see the entities and connections extracted from your document. Each entity appears as a node, and relationships appear as edges.

Now that your documents are uploaded and processed, it is time to put your knowledge to work. Learn how to search your documents and ask questions that synthesize answers across your entire knowledge base.

Pro Tip: Upload 3-5 related documents at once. The system discovers connections between them automatically, making your knowledge graph more valuable than any single document.
