This guide is for everyone on the team. Whether you are an owner looking for the right person to lead a project, or a new member trying to find who can help with a specific question, this workflow shows you how to go from topic to expert to conversation in minutes.
By the end of this guide, you will know how to use Expert Finder to type a topic, see ranked experts with relevance scores and connected topics, and message them directly with a pre-filled conversation. You will also learn how to discover experts naturally through search results as a secondary approach.
Search for a Topic
Expert Finder uses the knowledge graph to match your topic against people who have contributed relevant documents, been mentioned in content, or have connections to related entities.
Type your topic in the "Who knows about..." search field. For example, "Q4 budget projections" or "API rate limiting". Click Find Experts to run the search.
Review Expert Results
Expert Finder returns ranked expert cards so you can quickly evaluate who is the best fit. Each card includes details that help you decide who to reach out to.
Experts are ranked by relevance, so the top result is typically the best match for your topic. Review a few cards to find the person whose expertise best fits your question.
Start a Conversation
Once you have found the right expert, starting a conversation takes one click. Expert Finder pre-fills the message for you.
Click the Message button on the expert card. A New Conversation dialog opens with the recipient, subject, and message already filled in based on your topic and the expert's profile. Edit the message if you want to add more detail, then click Send Message.
Continue the Conversation
All messages stay in a threaded conversation so nothing gets lost.
View responses in your Messages inbox. Unread indicators show when you have new messages waiting. Reply in the same thread to keep all context in one place. As you learn from the expert, consider uploading any new documents or notes that capture that knowledge. This closes the loop and makes the knowledge available to the whole team.
