Using the Agent Setup Wizard

Create an AI agent in minutes with the guided setup wizard. Choose a template, confirm a few settings, and your agent is ready.

The Agent Setup Wizard walks you through creating an agent in a conversational flow. Lumen guides you step by step: name your agent, pick a template, confirm a few settings, and create. No form-hopping required.

Pro Tip: The guided wizard is the default when you click Create Agent. If you prefer a traditional form, click "I'd rather configure manually" at any point.

This guide is for admins and managers who are setting up new AI agents for their organization. You need the Owner or Admin role to create agents.

Start by giving your agent a name and a URL slug. The slug is auto-generated from the name, but you can customize it. The slug is used in the agent's embed URL and API endpoints.

Agent NameA human-readable name (e.g., "Support Bot")
URL SlugLowercase, hyphens only (e.g., "support-bot")

Templates pre-configure your agent with sensible defaults for common use cases. Each template sets the grounding mode, response style, response length, and handoff behavior.

Customer SupportBalanced grounding with async handoff for support teams
Technical DocumentationPrecise, citation-heavy answers from your docs
Sales & Lead QualificationConversational with live handoff for sales inquiries
Compliance & LegalMaximum restrictions for regulated industries
Internal Knowledge AssistantBalanced grounding for internal team queries
CustomBuild from scratch with full control over every setting
Pro Tip: Named templates use confirmatory questions: you see the recommended setting and click "Looks good" to accept or "Adjust" to change it. The Custom template shows all options for every setting.

After selecting a template, the wizard walks through each configuration setting. For named templates, Lumen recommends a value and you can accept or adjust:

Grounding ModeHow strictly the agent sticks to your knowledge base
HandoffWhether the agent can transfer to a human (live, async, or none)

If you chose the Custom template, you'll see all options for each setting as cards to choose from.

After answering all questions, you'll see a summary card with all configured settings. You can click Adjust settings to expand and change any individual setting, or click Create Agent to finalize.

After creation, the wizard shows next steps: set up guardrails, test your agent, and deploy it to your website.
